Fake Cops Are Calling Wheaton Residents. Here's the Script.
July 28, 2026

WHEATON, IL —
The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is warning of a surge in fake law enforcement scams hitting residents across the county this month. The pitch goes like this: someone calls claiming to be a deputy or federal agent, tells you that you missed jury duty or have an outstanding warrant, and demands payment in gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfer to make it go away. Real law enforcement does not call to collect fines over the phone. If you get this call, hang up. You can verify any actual warrant by calling the DuPage County Sheriff's Office directly at (630) 407-2400.
